United by a common vision, they navigated personal challenges and transformed those experiences into strength. Their love for matcha became a meaningful thread, symbolising authenticity and intention. This journey led them to Japan, where they explored the craft and tradition behind exceptional ceremonial matcha. MEET THE
FOUNDERS

A Journey Powered by Purpose

Meet David, founder of OSSU and the driving force behind the brand. His story starts long before OSSU existed, rooted in a lifelong pursuit of fitness, performance, and self-discipline. From an early age he was drawn to movement, punching, pedalling, running, always searching for ways to sharpen both body and mind. Diagnosed with dyslexia, David learned early how to think differently, turning challenges with focus and concentration into fuel for resilience and creativity.

In his 20s, David opened his own gym and immersed himself in the world of health and performance. That chapter sparked a deeper curiosity about nutrition and the role everyday rituals play in wellbeing. As he explored superfoods, from goji berries to kimchi and eventually matcha, they became part of his daily life. But one discovery stood out: not all matcha is created equal.

Determined to understand what truly defines exceptional matcha, David travelled to Japan to learn the craft at its source. Walking through tea fields and working alongside respected Tea Masters, he developed a deep respect for the tradition, precision, and care behind authentic matcha. What began as personal curiosity evolved into a clear vision.

OSSU was born from that journey, a brand shaped by David’s standards, ideas, and uncompromising attention to quality. His goal was simple: to honour the purity and craftsmanship of Japanese matcha while creating a modern ritual that fits seamlessly into everyday life.

Where Art Meets Ceremony

Meet our visionary co-founder, Samuel the creative force behind the captivating world of OSSU. A seasoned brand identity designer with over a decade of experience, Samuel found a new creative spark when an old friend, David, reached out to collaborate on the OSSU branding. Drawn by the challenge of building a brand from the ground up and fuelled by his love for tea, Samuel made a bold decision to become a full partner in the venture.

While matcha was a relatively new addition to Samuel’s tea routine, the flavour and ritual of OSSU matcha quickly became part of his daily life. With his own history of navigating wellness challenges, he found in the practice of preparing matcha a grounding moment that supported both his creativity and lifestyle.

Japan with its culture, craft, and natural beauty had long held a special place in Samuel’s heart. Inspired by past travels through the islands, becoming part of Japan’s tea story through OSSU felt like a natural connection. Guided by a desire to redefine the matcha experience, Samuel set out to break away from the elitist aesthetic often associated with the category, making premium matcha feel modern, approachable, and accessible to all.

As a photography enthusiast and graphic designer, Samuel brings a distinctive artistic flair to OSSU, blending his love for street and product photography with the craft of building a brand.

The Inspiration Behind OSSU

Creating Choices, Embracing Variety

The genesis of OSSU was fuelled by a simple yet powerful realisation: not everyone shares the same palate, especially when it comes to the traditional taste of plain matcha. We noticed a gap in the market, a lack of variety that could cater to diverse taste preferences. This sparked our ambition to create OSSU. Our goal? To give customers a spectrum of choices, opening up the world of matcha to a wider audience.

A Contemporary Twist on an Ancient Superfood

Matcha is more than just tea - it’s a centuries-old tradition with deep cultural significance. At OSSU, we honour this heritage while also embracing innovation. Our flavoured matchas introduce a contemporary twist to ceremonial-grade matcha, designed to appeal to modern tastes while respecting the craftsmanship at the heart of Japanese matcha culture.

Reviving Ceremony and Interaction

Matcha is deeply rooted in ceremony and community. We wanted to bring these elements back to the forefront of the tea-drinking experience. OSSU is all about enjoying the ritual and preparation associated with matcha, as well as enjoying a cup full and sharing that with others. Our vision was to create a brand that not only celebrates the individual experience of tea drinking but also emphasises its social aspect.

A Brand That Connects and Celebrates

OSSU is more than just a tea company, it's a community. We envisioned a brand that goes beyond the cup, one that unites people through the shared love of matcha. Whether it's a quiet moment of reflection with a cup of Ginger Matcha or a lively gathering of friends enjoying a Matcha Latte, OSSU is there to make these moments more special. We believe in creating connections and celebrating life's small pleasures, one cup of matcha at a time. Join us in this journey of taste, tradition, and togetherness. Welcome to OSSU, where every cup is not just a drink, but a celebration of life, culture, and connection.
