When will my order arrive?

We pack and ship your order ourselves. We usually dispatch within 1–2 working days using Royal Mail Second Class.

Royal Mail aims to deliver Second Class parcels in 2–3 working days after dispatch. These are estimated times, rather than a guaranteed delivery date.

How much is UK delivery?

UK delivery is £3.50 for orders below £30, and free for orders of £30 or more. Your final delivery charge is shown at checkout.

Do you offer next-day delivery?

We currently offer standard delivery only. Please allow for both dispatch and delivery time when ordering for a particular date.

Returns & refunds.

Can I return unopened matcha?

For eligible website purchases, tell us within 14 days after the day you receive your order that you want to cancel. You then have another 14 days to return it. Keep each tin’s inner food seal intact. Opening the outer delivery box or twin-pack gift box does not itself break the seals on the tins.

What if I have opened a tin?

For food hygiene reasons, we cannot accept a change-of-mind return once the tin’s inner seal has been broken. If your matcha is faulty, damaged, incorrect or not as described, contact us even if you have opened it. Your statutory rights still apply.

Can I return a whisk, spoon or sieve?

The same 14-day cancellation window applies to accessories. You can open the packaging to inspect them as you would in a shop. We may reduce a refund for loss in value caused by additional use or damage; opening the packaging alone does not remove your cancellation rights.

Who pays postage, and when will I be refunded?

You pay change-of-mind return postage. OSSU covers reasonable return costs for faulty, damaged, incorrect or misdescribed goods where a return is required.

For a valid cancellation, we refund your original payment method within 14 days of receiving the items or evidence that you sent them back, whichever is earlier. If you cancel your whole order, we also refund the standard delivery charge you paid.

General questions

What is matcha?

Matcha is a finely ground powder made from specially grown and carefully processed green tea leaves. Unlike traditional green tea, where the leaves are steeped and removed, matcha is whisked into water and consumed whole, giving it its signature richness and depth. Known for its vibrant green colour, smooth texture, and distinctive flavour profile, matcha can range from sweet and creamy to grassy and earthy.

The process of shading the tea plants before harvest enhances their colour and character, resulting in a tea that has been celebrated in Japanese culture for centuries. Traditionally used in Japanese tea ceremonies, matcha is now enjoyed worldwide in drinks, lattes, desserts, and modern recipes. It’s a versatile ingredient that brings a unique, expressive flavour to almost anything it touches.

Where does OSSU matcha come from?

Our matcha comes from Japan. Golden Grade is from Uji, Kyoto. Platinum is organic Ichibancha first-harvest matcha from Kyoto. See each product page for its individual details.

Is matcha tea?

Yes — matcha is a type of green tea, but it’s prepared a little differently. Instead of steeping whole leaves and removing them, matcha is made from shade-grown tea leaves that are stone-ground into a fine powder. You whisk this powder directly into water or milk, so you enjoy the whole leaf rather than an infusion.

This unique method gives matcha its naturally vibrant colour and smooth, distinctive flavour, making it a popular choice for those who enjoy a richer green tea experience.

How do I make matcha?

Follow our How to Make Matcha guide for the four simple steps.

How much can I drink in a day?

Matcha contains caffeine, so the amount you choose to enjoy depends on your own caffeine sensitivity and the other caffeinated drinks in your day. Start with a small serving and pay attention to how you feel.

If you’re pregnant, breastfeeding, or have specific health concerns, please speak with your healthcare provider for personalised guidance.
